John Knox Ranch's adventure programs help students develop interpersonal skills. Students participate in group challenges, initiatives, and trust building activities. They visit the low and high ropes courses, go rock climbing, and rappelling. They learn leadership and problem solving skills and build confidence and self esteem. Low Ropes The low ropes course is characterized by it's ability to create the need for group members to challenge their old ways of thinking and acting. Group members faced with challenging problems are required to take risks, talk, and share responsibility for a successful effort. The goal of the low course elements is to have participants unite and function as a high level group. High Ropes The power of the high course is in it's ability to create a situation where there exists a high perceived risk. The participant feels vulnerable but in reality they are quite safe. When this condition is achieved and the student discovers that he can push through fears, face risks, and achieve goals. Facing the challenges that are offered on the course makes the participant stronger, more confident, and more willing to face other challenges that confront them in their everyday lives.
